What is 440 Stainless Steel?
SAE 440 stainless steel is highly wear-resistant and very strong compared to other stainless steel alloys. Heat treatment is used to obtain this strength and hardness. This alloy also shows good resistance to mild acids and freshwater. Its temperature resistance is particular to the temperature it was tempered at as continued use at this temperature can lead to loss of strength.
