Our team attended a sustainability summit last week, and it was invigorating being around a group of like-minded individuals focused on corporate social responsibility.

The event really got us thinking about resource management and energy consumption because at the end of the day, we are all part of the same ecosystem.

Precision Machining, 5S and Lean Manufacturing

At E. J. Basler we adhere to the principles of 5S and lean manufacturing. Driving waste out of our value stream is essential to our precision machining and manufacturing processes, which naturally leads us to thinking about the extra wastes that impact our environment. The summit identified the strong parallelism between lean manufacturing and sustainability.

 Sustainability in Precision Machining

Adam Werbach has a wonderful book about the business case for sustainability that our team is reading now. In Strategy for Sustainability: A Business Manifesto, Adam explains how in today’s culture, sustainability is not just the right thing to do for our planet but also for our businesses. The Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship has a great infographic highlighting the same point Adam was making in his book. See below:
